Dogs in Hot Car

Yesterday I saw dogs in a car who were barking, it was a warm day and I was concerned about their safety. The windows were opened a crack but I heard this isn't enough to keep the dogs cool, I placed my finger through the open space in the window and felt it was too warm--I didn't know where the owners were! I didn't know what to do! I hope they were alright! What can I do the next time this happens?

Do you have a non-emergency number for your local police? For instance here, we have 311. Works the same way 911 does, but it's for situations that don't require a cop & emergency crews to speed over with sirens & lights.

Anyway, if you do have that, it might be a good place to start... or animal control. I guess it depends on how long you have to wait around for the owners to come back. If you can wait a while (and the animals are not in dire need), you can give them a chance to show and talk to them, but it might be safer for you if you let a professional handle it.

Hope the dogs you saw yesterday are ok!
Start carrying around a tire-iron and post-it notes to apologize about the expense of a new window.
